Time for a bathroom update

Since we got such a great quote for getting our kitchen cabinets painted, we thought we might as well get our master bathroom vanity painted too.  It is an oak vanity and has seen better days, hopefully a few coats of paint will cover up its defects and freshen up the bathroom.

I would love to paint the vanity a grey color, like Michelle's on TenJune.  I wanted a dark grey to contrast with the tan walls and pick up some of the greys in the granite.  But the husbo won't go for it. So we are going with the same color as our kitchen cabinets, BM Linen White.

Now I need to find some pretty glass knobs and convince the hubby that they aren't too girly.  Should have some after pictures next month!

Kitchen Dreams

Now that my dreamy white kitchen is almost here, I can't help but think of other improvements we can make.  Last weekend we bought new hardware for the cabinets.  Oil rubbed bronze knobs and pulls.  Kind of like these.

And now I am considering an island.  With oak cabinets it was too hard to try to coordinate an island.  But now that they are going to be white, and my kitchen table is black and distressed wood, I think this island from West Elm  might be perfect.  And if the wood legs don't look perfect, we can always paint them to match the cabinets and keep the stainless top.

To make sure it would make sense in the space and not feel too cramped, I temporarily placed an accent table in the middle of our kitchen.  The table is close to the same dimensions as the island.  So this is our kitchen right now, and yes I already put some pots on it to get the real island feel!

So far the island is working.  There is still room to get around even when the fridge, oven or dishwasher is open.  After the cabinet painting, I think that West Elm island will be coming home with us, especially at $299.  And after the cabinet redo, and the island, a backsplash will be next!

Welcome 2012!

I am extremely excited for 2012 to get under way!  We have one trip planned so far, a couple weekend getaways in the works, and plans to paint our kitchen cabinets (seen here)!  Well, let me rephrase, we will be hiring someone to paint our cabinets, since we don't have the time, patience or confidence to do it ourselves.  I have been debating on whether to paint them a straight color or paint and glaze them.  I am pretty set on Benjamin Moore's Linen White but can't decide if I want to coat it with a bronze glaze.  Is it crazy that painted cabinets are what I'm most excited about?  I think not.  We got a great quote today, so soooon, creamy white cabinets will be all mine!

Of course my kitchen still won't be as big and beautiful as the pics above, but definite improvement :)

Happy New Year!
